Arvid Nielsen - bass,
Bjarne Soerensen - drums,
Peter Toft - guitar and
Frank Carvalho - guitar
In the lifespan of this band we used many names. To begin with it was called
Aerodynamic, but later on, for no particular reason, it became
Epicure. We were very musically purist as we never played covers,
but wrote our own music. The bass player Arvid and I always had a creative
competition going, to come up with the best songs. I think we both improved
our skills that way.
To begin with we played hard edged rock, very inspired by the music of the
time (Thin Lizzy, Police, Dire Straits), and we built up a large
repertoire of songs and played some gigs. Then, soon we went for different
musical things. Arvid was into soul, pop and funk music, and I fancied odd
time signatures and extended beat instrumentals.
Then the drummer split, as his family was moving to another town. This left
us with no drummer, and no rehearsal room. For some time we played with
another drummer, Soeren Brink, but it didn't work out, so we went
on as a songwrinting trio, without real rehearsing. In this period we developed
our songwriting skills a lot, influenced among other by the band of that
day: Saga. In this period we made two demo tapes: One song recorded
in the summer of '82, and two more in the summer of '83.
Then Arvid decided to pursue a musical career, and I had to make up my mind
about what to do. So we split, as I was doing well in high school. Later
on, he stopped playing the bass in favour of singing, and he put out the
album 'Saa Laenge Det Swinger..'. This album eventually sold about
10.000 copies, which is quite a remarkable debut in the danish market. Then
he went to the danish conservatory of beat music in Copenhagen. Recently
(autumn 1996) he has been involved in a Copenhagen cast of 'Hair'.
